Ben Turner
Name: Ben Turner
Age: 32
Location: North Wales
Notable Achievements: I have been riding the ‘Gravel Train’ for a few years now, and notably have raced the Traka 360, Rift 200, Ranxo 160, Gralloch, and thousands of kilometres of adventures of bike packing and training around the UK and Europe. Some key memories on the 3500km route, I solo bike packed around Iceland, and riding from the UK to Switzerland for a running race, so I didn’t have to pay for flights!
Why GRVL?
Adventure is a pill to be taken twice daily. I strongly believe we need more of it in our lives to help live happier enjoyable, and fulfilling lives, making us stronger people mentally and physically. But we also have a responsibility for the care and stewardship of the natural places we explore and play in. This starts with leaving no trace and then includes your choices around kit and equipment. I am a strong believer in ‘you get what you pay for’ and investing in good quality, sustainable, and mindful gear is an important choice, leaving you with kit that lasts and holds the memories of many adventures.
ABOUT BEN TURNER
What Got You into Gravel Cycling?
Leaving the Army! I had to think of a way to ‘celebrate’ leaving the Army and figuring out my next moves in life (let alone trying to figure out how to be an independent adult!), so I ran away from it all and spent 28 days solo bike packing 3500km around Iceland on a gravel bike (I had never heard of a gravel bike before!) This started the journey of gravel and a complete love affair with the sport of adventure.
Gravel Goals for the Future?
For me, I want to push the BIG Challenges, so 2026 will have the TRAKA 560km on the
cards with the Bright Midnight 1000km, and I have a dream event of the Silk Road race, but on a gravel bike! Essentially, further, harder, and more adventurous.
Favourite Place to Ride Gravel?
Tough question, so I will answer it with three different answers! Scotland for the
sheer beauty of the country (Aberfoyle is heaven), the Dolomites for a hard mixture of tech and incredible mountains, and the good old hills of my home near Shropshire have some incredible places to explore!
Favourite Ride Snack?
Pizza… there is no other correct answer.
Favourite Piece of GRVL Apparel?
Absolutely, the 3-season jacket – we have been through a lot, and this jacket is super
comfy and looks amazing!
